The Judges – L-R: Ron Tear ARPS MPAGB, Dr John Law FRPS MFIAP, and Glyn Edmunds ARPS DPAGB EFIAP

In no time Alan Lomakin had us up and running. The stalwarts of the KCPA team (thank you one and all) moved into automatic and soon we were ready to start.Tea and coffee had been prepared and delivered from seemingly nowhere in no time at all by Penny Lewington and Sylvia Carter. This applied to lunch and the afternoon refreshments too. How do they do that so smoothly?
The President addressed us and, suitably motivated to produce an amazing result, off we started with two days to complete the judging.
The mention of ‘forthcoming snow’ did the trick and we were soon through to lunch – dismay – there had not been a single 15 (maximum score) awarded by the Judges (Dr John Law FRPS MFIAP, Ron Tear ARPS MPAGB and Glyn Edmunds ARPS EFIAP/s). They promised to do better after lunch. They did and soon we had a couple more 15’s to cheer us on our way.
We were progressing at such an incredible rate that Clive Tanner (announcer of titles and scores) and Ian Blacklock (electronic scoring and computer wizard) were struggling to keep up.
The word ‘snow’ did it for us again. We were through the initial judging by mid-afternoon – “a new record” declared Alan.
The Judges were determined to be finished by the end of the day and successfully strived to make their awards – we all helped by scattering the prints (gently of course for the nervous among you) so that it made it easier for the Judges to compare.
All that remains now is for the gathering of the prints, sorting the wheat from the chaff (including mine) and preparing for the framing and hanging – no not the judges – they did very well and undoubtedly earned their keep.
As to the results my lips are sealed ……………………..suffice to say that we are heading for our best ever Print Exhibition !

WE NEED YOU – Do not forget to come and help with the framing and ‘hanging’ on 20th March and to support the formal opening on Friday the 23rd March. See website for full details.

A mention must be made regarding the seven stalwarts, led by Alan, Gary and Sylvia, George and Cathy who braved the snow to return on Sunday for the BIG clearup, re-organising prints into their boxes to return to Associates. It was cold, slippery but enjoyably productive. We owe a big dept of gratitude to them !

Roger Hance FRPS from Colchester in Essex and member of Ipswich and District Photographic Society is a new, fresh, lecturer on the circuit willing to come to our county with his interesting range of talks, tailor made for Camera Clubs.

Roger has his own comprehensive website so check out the range in Camera Club Talks and look at his Galleries.

Our President Clive Tanner said “ Roger is a splendid photographer and speaker who can be relied upon to provide a very informative and entertaining evening”.

He charges £45, for the talk, plus petrol costs for the round trip there and back. He is happy to do two or three nights at different clubs if required, with an overnight stay provided. He is available for the autumn season of 2012. It would be good for some neighbouring clubs to get together to invite him.

I hope to finish in December a CD for the Recorded Lecture Service showing a large range of images in the passing range for CPAGB and DPAGB.
These will be incorporated into a PTE show to make it more difficult for anyone to copy them and use them illegaly.
Following suggestions from the SPA and L&CPU I can offer the APM images to Federations as plain images without music which you can use for Awards Workshops, etc., with the ability to pick the ones you want and “freeze” them to discuss their merits.
You are expected, of course, to treat these with respect, not allowing others to copy them and most certainly not making them available to clubs or individuals. They should only be used at Federation events or, securely, by appointed mentors. Who might be interested?
On a different subject the e-news articles about “lesser known” photographers have proved popular but few of you have taken up the invitation to nominate a couple. Would you like to do that or should I just appeal directly through e-news?

Tony Riley at SPA has reminded me that we discussed the possibility of loaning print sets for APM workshops in Federations. I am very happy to arrange this. At your expense (carrier) of course and we may need to fit around Adjudications.

I didn’t explain this offer very well previously which has led to a couple of requests I cannot meet. What I am offering, following a request from Tony Riley, is a box (or 2/3 boxes) of prints in the passing range, for C, D & M as required, available on request.
I don’t have any complete panels of prints, only a single print from each passing entrant. I am also not proposing to issue these on a “permanent” basis as they form the PAGB APM Archive and also because they need to be updated and refreshed regularly. I would suggest that Federations, for mentoring and workshops, should also seek to obtain complete panels of work from local successful, and even unsuccessful, applicants but again you should refresh these every year.
(I can seldom bring them to London as I fly or come by train but I come by car to all the other events – Print & PDI Championships, APM, etc. I can also ship them at Federation expense.) ROD

Greetings One and All
There must be some gigantic hidden power “out there” which triggers people from all over the Country to contact me at the same time about the same subject. This week it has been queries about AV Adjudications and a tremendous urgency to get applications in quickly. This is most surprising as some previous AV events have seen applicants not applying until the day before closing day and at a time when I am contemplating cancelling due to lack of entries!

To put the situation straight I am attaching a copy of an article written by Tony Riley (Chairman of the Standards Committee) on behalf of the PAGB Executive and published in the last edition of the RPS AV Journal. This clearly sets out the current position.
Until the Committee have reported back in February I am not able to issue any Application Forms as we will not be 100% certain the 2012 event will take place (though I have every hope that it will) and the form itself may need to be revised as part of the overall review.
Rest assured you will be informed as soon as possible after the Executive meeting in February whether or not we will be going ahead and, if we do, Application Forms will be made available.

Rumours that people have already applied and had their Entries accepted are not true – and cannot be for the above reason. If anyone wishes to express an interest in taking part, should the event run, I will keep a note of their details but will not be issuing any documentation until the situation has been resolved.
Best wishes
Leo
